Summer Wedding: What to Wear

You’ve RSVPd to the event. If the nuptials are taking place outdoors at a beach resort, the bride’s parent’s backyard, or the grounds of a palatial country estate, you have some planning to do. Usually the wedding website will provide some guidance as to the level of formality expected in guest’s attire. But it’s a wedding, so it’s time to pull out the stops for a festive summer celebration.

No one does elegant yet carefree better than Ulla Johnson. A tiny bit of boho roughs up the contemporary vibe of this flowing silk dress which will stay cool from the first flute of champagne to the send-off sparklers.

And LBD is always on point. Victoria Beckham finishes off her version with kicky tiers of glossy and matte ruffles. This is dance floor ready dressing.

If the wedding is actually on the beach, feel free to take some liberties. This printed linen shirt from Ermenegildo Zegna sets just the right tone—fun but not too casual. Trina Turk’s flowy caftan is beach wedding perfect. Breezy, bright and yet effortlessly deluxe in silk satin with, ahem, a shark-bite hem.

Men, follow the lead of the masterful Italian tailor Cesare Attolini. Here he pulls together a classic look for men with a blue/grey houndstooth jacket from his Sartorio line. Take some care with your pocket square and you can ditch the tie and still look Cary Grant-ish.

California-cool designer James Perse has the gift for making hip clothes that also look very rich. His linen blazer is an example of how to do summer dress-up right.
